How classification works

  1. Only articles from the last 48 hours are considered — specialist sources may reach back up to two weeks because they publish less often. Duplicates and near-identical headlines from different sources are removed.
  2. Title and summary are checked language-aware: German sources by word part (because of compounds like “Atomwaffen”), English sources by whole word — so that, for instance, the German verb “war” does not count as a war story.
  3. The category with the most hits wins; ties go to the one listed first.
  4. If no keyword matches, specialist sources (e.g. Mongabay → climate) contribute to their focus topic. Articles from generalists without a match are discarded.
